The Premise

Timelines is a tabletop roleplaying game about agents being deployed to pivotal moments in time with one instruction. Get it right or you might not have a home to come back to. If you mess up, you can rewind and try again, but sometimes it doesn't matter, time has a way of snapping back against you, no matter how hard you try.

The Game

Players are agents of a mysterious organization that exists outside normal time. When the timeline fractures—when someone changes something they shouldn't have—you're sent to put it right. The odds are against you, but you have the advantage of getting multiple shots at the problem.

The principles that shape the game
I.

Save Points

Set save points you can come back to and try again. Like a video game, failure isn't the end—it's information. Each attempt teaches you something the next run can use.

II.

Branching Timelines

Jump back to save points to create a branch and see if you can make a better outcome. Every choice splinters the timeline; every branch is a story that might have been.

The Snap-Back

But sometimes, history resists your changes. Time travel too often, and you might find that certain events, certain bad outcomes are fixed. No matter how hard you try, the young prince always dies, the knight always falls, and you have to salvage what you can around that. Time resists being changed.
