The Premise

Rangers is a tabletop roleplaying game about heroism in the face of overwhelming odds and powerful enigmatic enemies. With our cities occupied by alien invaders, and invasive flora and fauna roaming wild across the land, a loose network of state and national park rangers has created refuges for those who have nowhere else to run. But even this safety only lasts so long. Eventually the enemy will come for your park, with relentless force, wearing down your defenses until you are left with only a few desperate options.

The Game

Players take on the roles of Rangers: skilled wilderness guides, medics, scouts, leaders, and historians, maintaining our former parks. Together you must face down an impending threat, defend those who look to you for safety, and find some way to save something when it all falls apart.

The principles that shape the game
I.

Heroism in Defeat

Much like a tower defense game, the enemy keeps coming in bigger and bigger waves. Eventually you can't sustain. But that's when the story gets interesting, because when you're desperate you can do anything.

II.

Real Locations, Unreal Stories

Use real parks and real park maps as your battleground. Real places make your stories feel even more real.

III.

Tight One-Shots

Designed for quick one-shots with a clear story arc.

A work in progress — subject to change

From the fire tower I could see them coming up the road below. They rounded the curve of broken asphalt that wound around the mountain, like a creeping slime, packed so closely I couldn't tell one body from another, just a mass of red, black and green, rolling up the mountain. My heart dropped, shock paralyzing me for a second before I remebered the radio in my hands

"Captain, there's... there's so many of them, I can't even see the road anymore"

There was silence on the other end for a few minutes before the old man came back over the line

"We'll setup a choke point just south of the entrance. Traps, a few barricades. Tess you hold the north hill for an ambush, but pull back if you start taking fire. We can slow them down, we can buy time"

Tess's voice came over the line. "Buy time for what captain?"

"A miracle Tess, a god damn miracle
